In recent years, "influencers" on social media have become powerful figures, shaping the opinions and purchasing habits of millions of people, especially teenagers. Some argue they provide inspiration and community, while others argue they promote unrealistic standards and materialism.
What is your opinion? Do social media influencers generally have a positive or negative impact on society? Why?
I think they have a negative impact. Many influencers edit their photos and only show the "perfect" parts of their lives. This makes young people feel inadequate and depressed about their own lives. They also push people to buy things they don't need just to be trendy.
I disagree. Influencers can be very positive. There are many who advocate for mental health, environmental protection, or social justice. They use their platforms to raise awareness about important issues that traditional media might ignore. They help people feel less alone.
